Job summary

Frontier Resourcing is seeking an experienced Principal Hardware Engineer with strong Power Electronics to support a challenging aerospace and defence programme. This is a hands-on contract role where you will own complex hardware design activities and provide technical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include leading hardware from concept to qualification, reviewing schematics/PCB designs, component evaluation, debugging in the lab and mentoring other engineers.

Qualifications

• Experience designing power electronics across multiple topologies.
• Proven track record taking hardware from prototype to production.
• Experience with schematic capture, PCB design, and hardware verification.
• SC clearance or eligibility to obtain SC clearance.

Principal Hardware Engineer - Power Electronics

We are currently looking for an experienced Principal Hardware Engineer with strong Power Electronics expertise to support a technically challenging engineering programme within the aerospace and defence sector.

This is a hands-on contract opportunity suited to an experienced engineer who can hit the ground running, take ownership of complex hardware design activities and provide technical leadership within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of power electronic hardware from concept through to qualification.
• Provide technical leadership across complex hardware development activities.
• Design and review schematics, simulations and PCB designs.
• Support component selection, evaluation, verification and qualification.
• Troubleshoot complex hardware issues through commissioning, debug and fault diagnosis.
• Translate system and customer requirements into robust hardware designs.
• Lead design reviews and support hardware integration.
• Produce clear technical documentation and engineering reports.
• Provide technical input to customer and stakeholder discussions.
• Work hands-on in the laboratory, testing and troubleshooting hardware.
• Support and mentor other engineers where required.

Key Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone with a strong background in power electronics and hardware development, including:

• Significant experience designing power electronics across a range of topologies.
• Proven experience taking hardware from prototype through to production.
• Experience with custom or semi-custom magnetic components.
• Strong understanding of embedded digital electronics and microprocessors.
• Practical experience with schematic capture, PCB design and hardware verification.
• Experience using SPICE-based simulation and/or Simulink.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and quickly integrate into an established engineering team.
• Experience operating at Senior/Principal Engineer level.
• SC clearance, or eligibility to obtain SC clearance.

Experience with DEF-STAN/MIL-STD, EMC, environmental testing, Mentor Xpedition, DO-254, FPGAs, SoCs or high-speed digital design would be advantageous.
