Job summary

Align Property Services is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer in Northallerton to lead cutting-edge ground engineering across infrastructure and development projects. You will design and review complex ground investigations, interpret conditions, and deliver high-quality reports for major schemes.

You will mentor junior staff, manage budgets, and build client relationships while ensuring compliance with Eurocodes and British Standards.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
• MSc in Geotechnical Engineering
• Chartered (CEng, CGeol or equivalent) with ≥5 years post-chartership experience
• Proven consultancy experience in geotechnical and engineering geology
• Strong understanding of UK ground investigation standards, geotechnical analysis and design
• Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams through all delivery stages
• Excellent technical report writing, communication and stakeholder management
• Commercially aware with experience managing budgets and financial performance
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical and engineering geology projects from planning to completion
• Design and oversee ground investigations for development projects
• Interpret ground conditions and produce high-quality reports and recommendations
• Develop geotechnical design solutions including foundations, slope stability and retaining structures
• Manage project budgets, schedules and client expectations
• Provide technical guidance and quality assurance across project teams
• Mentor graduate and early-career engineers and geologists
• Build strong client relationships and identify new business opportunities
• Contribute to business growth through proposals and tenders
