Principal Engineer – Pipelines
The Principal Pipelines Engineer will lead technical activities for onshore and offshore rigid pipelines across all project phases. Based in Basingstoke, the role involves design, supervision, coordination with other disciplines and compliance with Eni standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering design activities for onshore and offshore rigid pipelines in all project phases.
- Act as Project Design Lead on large projects, managing discipline engineers and quality of pipeline work.
- Supervise, review and check pipeline activities: specifications, routing, mechanical design, stress analysis, lay‑ability, hot tapping, trenchless, and other analyses.
- Support CAD designers in layouts and pipeline drawings.
- Prepare datasheets, technical requisitions, and bid evaluations; resolve discrepancies and raise technical queries.
- Validate pipeline inspection, maintenance, emergency repair, and service studies.
- Conduct site visits to manufacturers and inspect third‑party design/installation during execution.
- Serve as technical specialist for pipeline design activities and collaborate with other disciplines.
- Maintain HSEQ compliance and review Eni technical standards and procedures.
- Travel as required to project sites and regional offices worldwide.
- Ensure safety, environmental and quality assurance processes are followed.
- Perform functions of Project Discipline Leader where appropriate.
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience in the oil and gas industry with rigid offshore and onshore pipelines.
- Proficiency with DNVGL pipelines design suite (SESAM, PET, AutoPipe, SAGE Profile, AGA).
- Experience with Ansys, ABAQUS, and Orcaflex is desirable.
- Knowledge of UK and international specifications and codes (BS, DNV, ISO, API, ASME).
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with excellent planning and organisational abilities.
- Willingness to develop into a high‑level technical expert.
Qualifications
- Degree in Pipeline Engineering, Subsea Pipeline Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Civil or Mechanical Engineering.
- Demonstrable experience in the relevant area of expertise.
