Job description

Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for a Principal Engineer - Nuclear Safety, with a background in Nuclear or Defence, to be engaged on a permanent basis, located in Cumbria.

What you'll be doing:

1. Deputising for the Build Assurance Manager as required.
2. Supporting or leading Nuclear Safety Engineering activities, including resolution of emergent issues during the build and commissioning, using application of common Safety Engineering techniques where appropriate.
3. Acting as the Intelligent Customer for documentation, advice, and services concerning the Plant and safety case provided to the company.
4. Developing sound technical solutions to issues arising during construction and commissioning of the Plant.
5. Authoring inputs to the Office of the Chief Engineer, advising on the compliance of the "as built" Plant against design, build, and commissioning requirements in support of entry into nuclear build phases.
6. Carrying out nuclear safety assessments of the impact of changes to, and deviations from, the Plant design intent.
7. Liaising with both internal and external customers as required, ensuring their requirements are supported and their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

1. Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as Engineering or Physical Science.
2. Understanding of the design, build, commissioning, and operation of Plant systems.
3. Demonstrable competence in technical report writing.

Desirable:

1. Engineering experience in the design and build of systems, including an understanding of the role that safety and quality play.
2. Ability to lead engineering investigations, including Root Cause Analysis.
3. The ability to constructively challenge and influence others, whilst putting forward clear, concise, and credible reasoning to support judgments.
