Job summary

London Stock Exchange seeks a Principal Technical Engineer with deep Kubernetes and Cloud Native expertise to design, implement and scale our container infrastructure. You will lead a fast-moving team of cloud engineers, set technical direction, mentor colleagues and collaborate with product and security teams to ensure reliability and security at scale.

This hands-on role offers opportunities to shape our platform and advance modern SDLC practices while staying at the forefront of cloud

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of cloud computing with AWS, Azure and GCP.
• Hands-on software development experience and Agile delivery.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal Technical Engineer with deep experience in Kubernetes and the CNCF landscape to join our growing team
• In this role you will be a key contributor to the design, implementation and maintenance of our Kubernetes infrastructure, ensuring its scalability, reliability and security
• You will provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, driving best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
• This is a hands‑on role with significant opportunities to impact our technical strategy and influence the direction of our platform
• We are looking for a Principal Engineer with experience of building cloud platforms and leading software engineering teams that support critical applications at scale in cloud
• Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters and associated infrastructure components
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
• Drive innovation and best practices in cloud infrastructure design and implementation
• Develops a team of Agile delivery leads, cloud engineers & consulting partners that design and build platform shared services and secure landing zones
• Ensures software engineering standards and modern SDLC practises are maintained
• Is required to be a technical authority for Kubernetes
• Understand security, risk and compliance frameworks, disaster recovery, high availability architectures, hardware, operating systems, and networking connectivity
• Collaborates with internal teams (including Product Owners)
• Provide solutions/guidance on Cloud budget management and optimisation
• Is responsible for the backlog of delivery for the Kubernetes container team
• Identify areas for improvement in existing processes, tools and workflows, and drive initiatives to enhance efficiency and reliability
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on our infrastructure
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including developers, DevOps engineers, and system administrators, to support their needs and align infrastructure initiatives with business goals
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing updates on project status and key initiatives

Deep understanding of cloud computing principles and technologies, with experience working with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skillsHands on experience in software development methodologies and Agile based deliveryDegree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)Proven experience with Cloud Native technologies on at least one of the major cloud services providers (AWS preferred)Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with application teams at all levelsPreferably have CKA, CKAD and CKS qualificationsExtensive experience designing, implementing, and managing Kubernetes-based cloud infrastructureExperience designing and delivering production cloud solutions at scalePeople management experience and experience building strong teams and leading engineersStrong leadership and team management skills, with a consistent record of leading technical teams to successShow a passion for people management and mentorshipProficiency in infrastructure as code tools and practices (Terraform etc.)
