Job title:Principal C&I Engineer

Location:Barrow-in-Furness, Manchester, Frimley (Hybrid – Travel to Barrow 3-4 times per month will be required). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the engineering activities for supply and delivery of a range of Controls and instrumentation equipment to support the test and build of the AVC group of systems
  • Keep detailed records and track part maturity, delivery status and schedules
  • Equipment specification and analysis, Part and BOM creation
  • Understanding our customers’ challenging needs and developing, validating and managing requirements. Determining C&I requirements by applying your knowledge in this area
  • Working with system owners, suppliers and the customer to support manufacture contracting and on time delivery of C&I equipment
  • Compilation of technical system documentation supporting design, delivery, Integration validation and verification, test, qualification and manufacturing
  • Responsible for test definition and performing testing on systems and equipment
  • Integrating systems containing electronic, mechanical and software sub-systems, understanding the potential impact on the whole boat and interfacing systems
  • Lead technical work packages managing design and deliverable evidence

Your skills and experiences:

  • You will have a good understanding of C&I systems design and demonstrable career experience with these systems
  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in relevant STEM subject (Engineering/ Physics/ Maths/ Science)
  • Knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle with ability to apply good systems engineering practices to your work
  • Awareness of Defence Standards and Industry standards for example IEC 61508 / 61511, ARP 4754, DO-178C / DO-254
  • Be a chartered engineer or working towards this level

The Integration, Instrumentation and Controls equipment (I&ICE) team:

As a Principal (C&I) Engineer you will be working in a sub systems engineering team, helping us to design, develop, integrate, manage and support control systems for in-service/future submarines. You will be working within the Active Vehicle Control (AVC) team on high integrity control systems that control the submarine platform manoeuvrability elements. This role will involve employing niche and novel technologies onto the submarine platform which hasn’t been done before. You will be working with the design, integration and testing of safety critical control systems, associated equipment, and facilities. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
