Job description

Principal Engineer - Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation)

Job title: Principal C&I Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Manchester, Frimley (Hybrid - Travel to Barrow 3-4 times per month will be required). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead engineering activities for the supply and delivery of controls and instrumentation equipment to support the test and build of the AVC group of systems.
  • Maintain detailed records, track part maturity, delivery status, and schedules.
  • Specify equipment, analyze requirements, and create parts and BOMs.
  • Understand customer needs and develop, validate, and manage requirements, applying your knowledge in C&I systems.
  • Collaborate with system owners, suppliers, and customers to support manufacturing contracting and ensure on-time delivery of C&I equipment.
  • Compile technical system documentation supporting design, delivery, integration, validation, verification, testing, qualification, and manufacturing.
  • Define tests and perform testing on systems and equipment.
  • Integrate systems containing electronic, mechanical, and software subsystems, understanding their impact on the entire platform and interfacing systems.
  • Lead technical work packages, managing design and deliverable evidence.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • Good understanding of C&I systems design with demonstrable experience.
  • Degree or equivalent in relevant STEM field (Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science).
  • Knowledge of the system engineering lifecycle and ability to apply good practices.

Desirable

  • Awareness of Defence Standards and industry standards like IEC 61508/61511, ARP 4754, DO-178C/DO-254.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards this qualification.
