Job description

Job title: Principal Engineer - Combat Systems

Location: Glasgow. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to £58,540 (depending on skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:
  1. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to ensure customer and business needs are satisfied appropriately, proactively solving problems and issues when they arise
  2. Liaising with other Combat System technical design leads, and the RCD CS Technical Authority (TA) to ensure coherency across the Combat System and the incorporation of RCD wholeship and sub-system requirements
  3. Customer facing role which will require competency within the Combat Systems domain, acting as the SME in area of responsibility
  4. Support design change and design improvement from existing platform baselines to ensure the design intent of the platform is maintained
  5. Technical design lead for the definition of Combat System design rules and management of all deviations for the CS Team
  6. Technical design lead in support of physical integration undertaking technical work activities within a systems engineering context
  7. Technical design lead in providing support to the platform and detail design teams for defining the requirements for Combat System equipment in non-Combat System compartments

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:
  1. A relevant degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, with a demonstration of suitable experience/competency in Combat Systems
  2. Member of a professional organisation and holds Chartered Engineering (C.Eng) status (or working towards)
  3. Previous experience of managing a technical team and can provide coaching and mentoring to others within the Combat Systems team to support their development
  4. Has acted as a Combat Systems SME within a complex programme

Desirable:
  1. Understanding of System Engineering design Lifecycle within an Engineering to Order (ETO) programme
  2. Experience in fast-paced environment using SME knowledge to solve integration challenges to keep the project on track.

The River Class Destroyer (RCD) Combat Systems team:

The BAE Systems River Class Destroyer (RCD) Combat Systems team provides the expertise to physically integrate the Combat Systems sub-system equipment, working within a complex engineering to order warship design programme. Your skills and experience will enhance the existing CS Team to ensure Right First-Time deliverables to our customer. The role will provide the opportunity to develop and enhance your own competency levels, with the potential to lead into management roles within the Combat Systems domain. BAE Systems Naval Ships has a long-term role in both the definition and implementation contracts for RCD and will support roles in the UK and opportunity of working within Canada.
