Job summary

Jobtailor is recruiting a senior Employment Lawyer to act for the council, delivering expert advice and representation on Employment Law matters. You will advise, influence, shape and challenge at senior levels and support strategic priorities, workforce projects and statutory functions.

You will work with specialist Legal colleagues on corporate priorities, transformation projects, workforce initiatives and service development, contributing to risk management and lawful decision-making

Qualifications

• Qualified Employment lawyer with UK practising certificate.
• Experience advising Local Authorities or public sector on Employment law.
• Experience in Employment Tribunal and dispute resolution.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert Employment Law advice and representation for the council.
• Advise, influence, shape and challenge at senior levels within the authority.
• Support strategic workforce projects, statutory functions and governance.
• Collaborate with specialist Legal colleagues on corporate priorities and service development.

Job description

• Act as one of the council's senior legal professionals
• Provide expert legal advice and representation on Employment Law matters
• Advise, influence, shape and challenge at senior levels
• Support strategic priorities, workforce projects and statutory functions
• Work alongside specialist Legal colleagues on corporate priorities, transformation projects, workforce initiatives and service development
• Support effective risk management and lawful, robust decision-making throughout the Council
• Contribute to shaping the future of local government during reorganisation

Requirements

• Ideally have an honours degree in a relevant discipline
• Admitted Solicitor or Barrister status (England and Wales) with a current practicing certificate
• Excellent understanding and experience of operating within the legal frameworks and requirements of Local Authority governance
• Extensive previous post-qualification professional experience within Employment Law
• Excellent previous experience of advising Local Authorities or Public Sector organisations on Employment law matters
• Previous experience of Employment Tribunal and Dispute resolution
• Demonstrative experience of working with Trade Unions, ACAS and other external legal advisers
• Drive to provide legal advice and guidance
• Excellent communication skills and comfort communicating with stakeholders at all levels
• Must address and evidence all essential criteria from the person specification
• Must upload supporting documentation before the closing date
