Job summary

Matchtech currently seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to drive design across transformative water sector projects in the UK, based in Leeds with hybrid working options.

You will lead electrical design (LV/HV), MCCs, and installations, ensuring multi‑disciplinary collaboration and compliance with UK standards. A Chartered Engineer with water sector experience is essential to join this high‑impact team.

Qualifications

  • Must be Chartered Electrical Engineer.
  • Must have good experience in the Water Industry.
  • Must have experience in leading design delivery, including multidisciplinary design.
  • Must possess sound knowledge of electrical design (LV and HV systems), motor control centres/switchgear, electrical installations and systems within industrial/process environment, HAZOP assessments, DSEAR/ATEX installation practice, production of SLD/BCD's, earthing and bonding and familiarity with current UK design standards, including industry‑specific standards and working practices.
  • Must have proficiency in designing within appropriate digital analysis packages following local and national guidance (e.g., electrical design software such as Trimble | Amtech).

  • Lead a team to undertake technical design work following relevant design standards and codes, and to high‑quality levels.
  • Prepare briefs, scopes of work, and input into bid proposals.
  • Successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.
  • Work closely with teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Adhere to quality assurance standards in design.
