Job summary

Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to lead the design of advanced machine control systems and to mentor the engineering team. You will influence standards, drive smarter workflows, and ensure compliance with global regulations.

You will act as a technical authority across the department, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver world‑class, right‑first‑time solutions that meet business needs and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable.
• Proven experience designing machine control systems.
• Strong understanding of EN and international standards.
• Natural leadership capability with the confidence to mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical control systems for complex machinery.
• Ensure compliance with EN60204‑33, EN13849, UL, CSA and CE marking requirements.
• Act as a technical leader and SME within the organisation.
• Provide high‑quality technical input for manuals and supporting documentation.
• Promote and embed professional engineering standards across the department.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to ensure clear, complete specifications.
• Translate requirements into structured, modular, scalable designs.
• Support supplier engagement, including subcontractor liaison and site visits.
• Drive development of design tools, automation, and smarter workflows.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and support department strategy.
