Job summary

Newman Stewart Ltd. is seeking a Principal Electrical Design Engineer in the United Kingdom to lead the electrical control system design for complex machinery.

You will act as a technical authority, guiding hands-on design work with leadership and mentoring across the team. You will ensure compliance with EN/ISO standards, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers, and help drive tool development and smarter workflows while balancing technical decisions with cost and delivery

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering and relevant machine control experience.
• Proven ability to design electrical control systems for complex machinery.
• Knowledge of EN 60204-1, EN ISO 13849, UL, CSA and CE marking requirements.

Our client is a leading global high-technology business, developing advanced engineering solutions used in scientific research and sophisticated industrial applications. Its technology supports the creation and manufacture of micro- and nano-structures, contributing to innovation across semiconductors, medical devices, electric vehicles and quantum technologies. As a result of continued development, they are seeking an accomplished Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their team.

The Role

This is a senior technical appointment with the opportunity to influence how electrical engineering is delivered across the business. As Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will act as a recognised technical authority, combining hands-on design expertise with leadership, mentoring and continuous improvement.

You will lead the design, development and implementation of electrical control systems for complex machinery, translating technical requirements into structured, modular and scalable solutions. You will ensure designs meet internal standards and relevant international regulations, including EN 60204-1, EN ISO 13849, UL, CSA and CE marking requirements. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and suppliers, you will improve specifications, support technical documentation and drive the development of design tools, automation and smarter workflows.

To be successful, you will hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and have proven experience designing machine control systems. You will bring a strong understanding of relevant EN and international standards, proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. You will be a credible technical leader who can guide and mentor others, improve engineering methods and balance detailed technical decisions with cost, delivery and wider commercial impact. A postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
