Stonehouse Recruitment is supporting a Local Authority in the East Midlands to recruit a Principal Environmental Health Officer (Team Leader) for Food Safety on an initial six-month contract. The role offers hybrid working with two days on site, and a rate of £60+ per hour, negotiable.

You will lead a team of Environmental Health Officers, oversee food safety inspections, maintain high service standards and regulatory compliance, and serve as a key contact for colleagues and external

• Proven Local Authority Environmental Health management or team-leader experience.
• Prior experience as Principal EHO is essential.
• EHRB registration is required.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the district.

Principal Environmental Health Officer (Team Leader) - Food Safety - East Midlands

I'm currently working with a Local Authority in the East Midlands who are looking to bring in an experienced Principal Environmental Health Officer to lead their Food Safety team on an initial 6-month contract.

£60+ per hour (negotiable)
Hybrid working - 2 days per week on site (typically Tuesday and Wednesday)
Minimum 6-month contract

The role will involve leading and supporting a team of officers, alongside overseeing a varied caseload of food safety inspections and interventions across the district. Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading, motivating and developing a team of Environmental Health Officers
• Overseeing food safety inspections and interventions
• Maintaining high standards of service delivery and regulatory compliance
• Providing guidance and support to officers
• Acting as a key point of contact for colleagues and external stakeholders
• Supporting wider Environmental Health functions where required, including Health and Safety, Infectious Disease Control, Public Health and Animal Welfare

The successful candidate will need proven Local Authority Environmental Health management or team leader experience, with previous experience working as a Principal EHO essential. Strong food safety inspection expertise, EHRB registration and a full UK driving licence are also required, along with the ability to travel across the district.
