Job summary

The Isle of Wight Council is seeking a Principal Educational Psychologist to establish a new department and oversee the inclusion service. This role focuses on improving educational outcomes for children and young people on the Isle of Wight, offering leadership opportunities and a chance to make a significant impact on local services.

Do you want to make the difference to the lives of children and young people across the Isle of Wight?

This is a once in a career opportunity to set up a brand-new Educational Psychology department at the Isle of Wight Council.

This is an exciting role over a range of services, linking them together to benefit children and young people on the Island. You will also lead our inclusion service across the Island, joining up services to ensure children’s needs are better met.

Our inclusion service operates a wide and interesting portfolio including:

  • Inclusion support, including a traded offer
  • Attendance
  • Statutory attendance and exclusion
  • Elective Home Education
  • Child licensing

What will you be doing?

  • Set up and manage the Educational Psychology Service including management and supervision of staff.
  • Have oversight of strategic projects within the Educational Psychology and Inclusion Service.
  • Take responsibility for developing and monitoring service planning, including KPI’s and statutory timeframes.
  • Take responsibility for developing a traded service for Inclusion and Educational Psychology.
  • Represent the Inclusion and Educational Psychology Service within the various meetings and partnerships.
  • Work with senior colleagues to drive forward the Education Strategy.
  • Work with senior colleagues to improve SEN provision across the Island and contribute towards our Safety Valve work.
  • Work with senior colleagues to contribute towards our Area SEND preparation.
  • Improve the outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

About You

  • A qualified Educational Psychologist with significant leadership experience
  • Able to work as part of a team, taking responsibility for areas they lead on.
  • Ability to access face to face meetings locally.
  • High quality verbal and written communication skills.
  • A commitment to ensuring children and young people across the Isle of Wight achieve their best outcomes and develop into independent adults.
