Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to take up a role as Principle Clinical Psychologist in the Bromley CAMHS Generic team. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Psychology Leads and the Generic Team Manager in supporting the high-quality delivery of evidence based psychological therapy pathways and the effective functioning of the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will support the use of routine outcome measures within the team. The post holder will hold supervisory responsibilities and will support the service in providing supervision to qualified clinical psychologists up to the grade of 8a as well as colleagues from other professions. The postholder will support leadership projects, contribute to service development, quality improvement and research, audit and evaluation across the service. The successful candidate will be supported with ongoing continuing professional development opportunities and relevant training as required. The post holder will hold responsibility for contributing to the continuing professional development of colleagues in the service

Main duties of the job
  • To support the leadership of clinical psychology and the Generic Team inBromleyCAMHS.
  • To provide specialist supervision, consultation and training to both psychology and non psychology colleagues.
  • To support the provision of high-quality evidence based psychologicalclinicalpractice within the team.
  • To support the routine use of outcome measures to monitor progress of interventions meaningfully within the team.
  • To support the multi-disciplinary team functioning, chairing and leading within team meetings as required.
  • To support the monitoringandimplementation of clinicalstandardswithin the Generic Senior Leadership Team.
  • To deliverhighly specialist clinical assessments andinterventions asa senior clinician within CAMHS, supporting onclinicalpathwaysandservicedevelopmentsasrequired.
  • To support evaluation, audit and research within the Generic Team and wider service as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Management responsibilities

  • Toensureappropriatesystemsareinplacefortheclinicalandprofessionalsupervisionofcolleagues trained to provide psychological therapies within the service in conjunction with the psychology team.
  • Toprovideprofessional,clinicalandmanagementsupervisiontolessseniorpractitioners,assistantsandtraineesandtheworkofotherprofessionsasappropriateandhaving completedtherelevanttraining.
  • To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of theservicewherepsychologicaland/ororganisationalmattersneedaddressing.
  • To manage the workloads of clinical psychologists, CAPS, assistant psychologists, within the framework of the team/service’s policies and procedures

Leadership

  • To provide leadership on how psychological models and audit, evaluation and research can support and shape local servicedeliveryand quality improvement.
  • Toutilisetheory,evidence-basedliteratureandresearchtosupportevidence-basedpracticein individualworkand workwithin the team and wider service.
  • To support the recruitment of Clinical Psychologists within the service.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies andissues inrelationtoclinical psychology andmentalhealth.
  • To support the development of psychology and non-psychology colleagues, bothdirectlyinsupervisionand PDR,andindirectly.
  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholder’s professional and service manager(s).

Clinical

  • To provide specialist psychological assessments of children and young peoplereferredtotheteambasedupontheappropriateuse,interpretationandintegration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological andneuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirectstructuredobservationsandsemi-structuredinterviewswithclients,familymembersandothers involvedintheclient’s care.
  • To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health problemsandotherrelevantissues,baseduponanappropriateconceptualframeworkoftheclient’sproblems,andemploying methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of caresettings.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions forindividuals,carers,familiesandgroups,withinandacrossteamsemployedindividually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulationsdrawingupondifferentexplanatorymodelsandmaintaininganumberofprovisionalhypotheses.
  • Toevaluateandmakedecisionsabouttreatmentoptionstakingintoaccountboththeoreticalandtherapeuticmodelsandhighlycomplexfactorsconcerninghistorical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family orgroup.
  • To exercise autonomous professionalresponsibilityfortheassessment,treatmentand discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically-basedstandardcareplans.
  • To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosisandtreatmentplan.
  • To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically-based framework of understanding and care to the benefitofallclientsoftheservice,acrossallsettingsandagencies.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and toprovide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessmentandriskmanagement.
  • To act as care coordinator, where appropriate, taking responsibility for initiatingplanningandreviewofcareplansunderCPAincludingclients,theircarers,referringagentsandothersinvolvedin thenetworkofcare.
  • To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning theassessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and tomonitorprogressduringthecourseofboth uni-andmulti-disciplinarycare.
  • To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.

Research

  • Tocontributehighlyspecialistresearch/analyticalskillstoservice-widehealthcare data collection for the purposes of clinical care and to inform servicedelivery
  • Tocontributetothedevelopment,evaluationandmonitoringoftheteam’soperational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills inresearch,serviceevaluationand audit.
  • To produce, interpret and present complex data/outcomes reports for a range of internal and external audiences.

Communication

  • To liaise frequently regarding highly complex information within the locality andacross the Trust wider systems to support data collection processes and effectivereporting.
  • To liaise with other team members, including, where applicable, the joint heads ofpsychology,psychologistcolleaguesandmembersofotherdisciplinesandagencies involvedwithaclient’scare.
Person specification
Education/Qualifications
  • Doctoral Level Training accredited by HCPC
  • Completion of post qualification specialist training including training in supervision of trainee clinical psychologists
  • Pre-qualification training e.g. Research Methodology/Staff training
Experience
  • Experience of specialist psychological assessments and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and inpatient settings
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups (inc across the age range/clinical severity)
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
Skills/Ability/Knowledge
  • High-level ability to communicate effectively
  • Skills in providing consultation to others
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists
