Job summary

Tetra Tech in England is seeking a Principal Ecologist to lead ecological inputs across renewable energy, residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects, delivering high-impact solutions while aligning with UK legislation and best practice.

You will manage a portfolio of 6–10 projects, mentor junior ecologists, author and peer-review ecological reports, and engage with regulators and stakeholders to secure pragmatic outcomes.

Qualifications

• Sound knowledge of the UK planning system and environmental legislation relevant to the role.
• Competence in UK Habitat Classification and habitat condition assessments.
• Ability to design and complete a range of typical ecology surveys and interpret findings.
• Experience delivering ecological mitigation, including protected species licensing and ECoW work.
• Full UK driving licence, insured for business purposes and willingness to travel with overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Lead ecological inputs across renewable energy, residential, commercial, and infrastructure schemes.
• Author and peer-review ecological reports, manage project finances, and deliver outcomes on time.
• Engage with regulators and stakeholders to achieve positive project outcomes.
• Mentor, develop, and line-manage junior ecologists within a collaborative team.
