Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Digital to join our hybrid team in the UK. You will shape the Future Manufacturing strategy for Assy, Automation & Tooling and MES, ensuring robust integration of tools and data to support efficient production.

You will lead cross‑functional activities with IT, Cyber, and suppliers, champion digital thread development, and mentor junior engineers while delivering improvements across the NPI and production life cycles.

Qualifications

• HND or equivalent required.
• Experience with manufacturing data systems and underlying principles.
• Experience in supporting NPI Manufacturing Engineering Systems activities.
• Knowledge of PLM, ERP, MES and QMS/BMS.
• Experience in early phases of product/process development life cycle.
• Ability to influence with data to support reasoning.
• Understanding of operational framework and business processes.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Interface with IT, Cyber and Future Factory Digital Lifecycle teams to support integration activities.
• Engage with national and international partners on smart tooling, automation and MES integration.
• Support development of Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Repair elements of the digital thread.
• Develop and implement digital twins concepts and simulations for plant/processes.
• Assist MES solution architects in aligning MES options.
• Lead MES integration within the Smart Workbench as the Future Proof of Concept.
• Provide data-driven inputs to Operations decisions and project reporting.
• Monitor external tech developments to identify exploitation and knowledge sharing opportunities.
• Support creation of robust manufacturing information to aid decision making.
• Contribute to improvements in manufacturing efficiency through innovative ideas.
