Job Title

Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location

Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Please speak to your recruiter about options.

Salary

Negotiable depending on experience

Responsibilities
  • Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
  • Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  • Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress through agile tools.
  • Ensure timely delivery of the engineering plan.
  • Guide and instruct on engineering methods and processes.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Delivery Team to develop technical solutions and support team development.
  • Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions based on existing designs.
Skills and Experiences
Essential
  • Experience in developing C&I designs for large-scale systems, meeting various standards.
  • Experience managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock compliance.
  • Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents such as I/O schedules and interface control documents.
  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science.
Desirable
  • Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
  • Knowledge of IEC 61508 - Functional Safety and safety evidence production.
  • Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.

The Platform Complex Systems Team
