Job Description:

Job Title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements; please consult with your recruiter for options.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Develop functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
  • Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
  • Collaborate with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress via agile tools.
  • Ensure timely delivery of engineering plans and provide guidance on engineering methods.
  • Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, nurturing team members’ development.
  • Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions based on existing designs.
Your skills and experiences:
  • Experience designing large-scale C&I systems meeting diverse requirements, including standards and regulations.
  • Managing non-functional requirements such as EMC and shock compliance.
  • Proficiency in authoring and reviewing design documents like I/O schedules and interface control documents.
  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
  • Experience with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety and supporting safety claims.
  • Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.
