Job Title

Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location

Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on site per fortnight). Hybrid and flexible working arrangements available; please discuss options with your recruiter.

Salary

Negotiable depending on experience

Responsibilities

• Develop a functional design for the Vehicle Control solution for SSNA.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to oversee the delivery of the vehicle control solution and strategy.
• Support assurance activities in coordination with the Office of the Chief Engineer.
• Work with the engineering manager to deliver the vehicle control system, reporting progress using agile tools.
• Ensure timely delivery of the engineering delivery plan.
• Guide and instruct on engineering methods and processes.
• Develop technical solutions with the Engineering Delivery Team, fostering team development.
• Engage with legacy stakeholders to develop solutions from baseline designs.

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems, meeting functional, defence, and industrial standards.
• Management of non-functional requirements like EMC and shock compliance.
• Proficiency in authoring/reviewing design documents such as I/O schedules, specifications, and interface control documents.
• Degree or equivalent in STEM fields (Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science).

Desirable

• Understanding of control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
• Experience with IEC 61508 Functional Safety or similar standards.
• Experience with manoeuvring systems across industries.

The Platform Complex Systems Team

Contribute to designing the Royal Navy's next-generation attack submarines, integrating legacy and new control technologies, collaborating with various stakeholders, with relocation support available for eligible roles.
