Job Description:

Job title: Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton or Manchester (minimum 2 days on-site per fortnight). We offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements—please discuss options with your recruiter.

Responsibilities:

• Develop functional design for Vehicle Control solutions for SSNA
• Coordinate with stakeholders to oversee delivery of vehicle control solutions and strategies
• Support assurance activities in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Engineer
• Work with engineering managers to deliver vehicle control systems and report progress using agile tools
• Ensure timely delivery of engineering plans
• Provide guidance on engineering methods and processes
• Develop technical solutions with the engineering delivery team and support team development
• Engage with legacy stakeholders for baseline design development

Requirements:

• Experience in designing large-scale C&I systems meeting functional, defence, and industrial standards
• Knowledge of managing non-functional requirements like EMC and shock compliance
• Experience in authoring/reviewing design documents (I/O schedules, specifications, interface control documents)
• Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Maths, or Science
• Understanding control system architecture and communication protocols (RS-485, PROFIBUS)
• Experience with IEC 61508 or similar functional safety standards
• Background in Maneuvering Systems across industries
