About the Opportunity

Jacobs is currently recruiting for a Principal C&I Engineer to join our Nuclear Power and Engineering Technical Services (NPETS) business. NPETS is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation and by supporting many small and advanced modular reactor developers to develop their designs. Our nuclear work is varied covering Concept Development, New Build, Generation, Life Extension and Defueling, our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.

On joining the NPETS business in Jacobs, you will be part of a global company driving innovation in multiple sectors, benefiting from the knowledge and advice of over 350 EC&I engineers in the UK, and contributing to net zero carbon goals in the UK and internationally.

This role will be based at one of our UK NPETS offices (Warrington, Newcastle, Knutsford, Gloucester, Dorchester or Didcot). We prioritize flexibility and are open to flexible working patterns. Key responsibilities include:

  • Act as the Responsible Engineer on projects.
  • Lead project delivery teams across the project lifecycle from bid generation, through concept and detailed design development to installation and commissioning.
  • Own and manage project budgets.
  • Build and manage client relationships, leveraging those relationships for continued opportunities and new business leads.
  • Work on systems integration, testing and validation of PLC, SCADA, and simulator systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of implementing engineering designs and understanding standards and regulatory compliance in an engineering environment.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Simplify complex problems and build valuable relationships.

Qualifications and Experience Needed:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent (e.g., HNC/HND with significant experience) in C&I or a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body.
  • Previous team leadership, technical lead, or Responsible Engineer experience.
  • Awareness of civil nuclear plant systems, structures, components, and relevant design and assessment guidelines (or principles from other highly regulated industries).
  • Understanding of standards such as IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, 61226, ONR SAPs / TAGS.
  • Experience in the systematic design lifecycle of C&I systems, including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of safety or process-critical I&C Systems.
  • Knowledge of high integrity hardware or software-based control systems for industrial equipment.
  • Motivated team player with ability to meet deadlines and communicate project progress.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate information to diverse stakeholders.
