WRK digital are thrilled to be partnered with Skipton Building Society supporting the growth of their cloud engineering and architecture functions. As their highly skilled team expands, they are seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to play a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and optimization of the Society’s Azure Cloud infrastructure.

As a technical leader, the Principal Cloud Engineer will stay at the forefront of technological advancements, providing technical direction by articulating a clear technical vision with hands-on involvement, enabling the organization to leverage Azure cloud technologies effectively to deliver high-quality services and customer outcomes.

Responsibilities of the Principal Cloud Engineer include:

  • Ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of Azure Cloud-based solutions while aligning with the Society’s objectives of innovation, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serving as the leading technical expert in Azure Cloud solutions, infrastructure as code (IaC), automation, and security, informing critical design and implementation decisions.
  • Defining and enforcing best practices, ensuring Cloud engineering teams adopt cutting-edge Azure methodologies and adhere to industry standards for security, compliance, and performance.
  • Driving the adoption of DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles to improve operational efficiency, resilience, and service reliability.
  • Engaging with IT leadership, Security teams, Engineering, and Data teams to shape Cloud strategy, ensuring that Cloud investments align with the Society’s digital transformation goals.
  • Promoting security best practices, ensuring operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and adherence to security frameworks such as Zero Trust, ISO27001, and GDPR.
  • Mentoring engineering teams, sharing your technical knowledge, and helping team members develop their skills.

Requirements for the Principal Cloud Engineer include:

  • Strong experience in Azure Cloud services such as Azure Networking, Azure Integration, and Azure Data Services.
  • Deep proficiency in automation and infrastructure as code (IaC) using PowerShell, Terraform, Bicep, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Strong solution architecture skills, capable of designing scalable, high-performance, resilient Cloud solutions.
  • Leadership and mentoring experience, with previous team leadership roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cloud security principles, Zero Trust architecture, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
  • Proven expertise in DevOps & CI/CD, implementing best practices for continuous integration and delivery.
  • Leadership and communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into business benefits.
