We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity within Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Inpatient Service.

This is a fantastic permanent 8b post (0.6wte) for anyone looking for a rewarding role with plenty of opportunities to shape psychological input to inpatient services for older people. There is scope to make the role your own in meeting the needs of older people admitted to our two functional mental health wards at the Bennion Centre, Glenfield Hospital site.

The successful applicant will join the existing Inpatient Psychology Team, including Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP), Assistant Psychologist, and Trainee Clinical Psychologists, and will be an integral part of the ward Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT).

The MHSOP Inpatient Psychology Team works alongside the MHSOP Community Psychology Team with plenty of opportunities for peer support, Continued Professional Development (CPD), and further relevant training.

MHSOP Psychology has strong links with the wider LPT Psychology and Psychological Therapies community, and Leicester University Doctoral Training Course; providing opportunity for shared learning, support, and development.

Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

The post-holder will provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to patients referred to the MHSOP Psychology Inpatient Service, working with people with functional based mental health problems, with additional scope to develop our service for people with organic problems, such as dementia, on our two organic wards at the General Hospital.

The post-holder will offer advice and consultation on patient’s psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues, and where appropriate deliver psychological assessments (including neuropsychological assessment) and interventions; working autonomously within professional guidelines and the Trust policies, procedures and service priorities. The post-holder will manage, and offer clinical supervision to less senior psychologists working in the MHSOP Inpatient Psychology Service.

The post-holder will participate fully in multidisciplinary clinical teams, ensuring effective systems are in place for the management of referrals to the service and workload of team members to ensure timely and appropriate care is provided.

The post-holder will work with the support of the Consultant Clinical Psychologist for MHSOP, to develop and provide innovative services to meet the psychological needs of patients referred to the service in accordance with evidence-based practice. The post-holder will be capable of conducting projects, working independently with only general briefings and working directly with senior managers.
