Join AtkinsRéalis as a Principal Clean Water Process Engineer and play a key role in designing and delivering landmark water‑related infrastructure across the UK and internationally.

Role

As a Principal Clean Water Process Engineer within the Design & Advanced Technology practice, you will lead engineering teams, develop technical designs, and work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver transformative water projects.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate or manage a team of Clean Water Process engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi‑disciplinary projects, ensuring compliance with national and project‐specific codes and standards.
• Produce and review technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work.
• Provide technical clean water process input into project design deliverables and collaborate with project management to meet time and budget milestones.
• Work with client, operational, project, or service activities within your team and other AtkinsRéalis teams.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues to develop Clean Water Process Engineering capabilities locally.
• Work independently with minimal technical guidance, exercising personal judgment to solve difficult problems.
• Provide technical support for bid proposals.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Adhere to quality assurance standards in design, including reviewing your own and others’ work.

About You

• Degree in Chemical / Process Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered or Incorporated Chemical / Process Engineer.
• Proven experience coordinating or managing a Clean Water Process engineering design delivery team within a multi‑disciplinary consultancy environment.
• Broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to design problems.
• Strong knowledge and design/practical experience in drinking water treatment processes and principles, including conventional and advanced treatment technologies.
• Practical knowledge of current design codes, standards, and industry best practices, including CDM Regulations.
• Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
• Experience in designing and delivering projects with adherence to UK safety and environmental regulations, process safety techniques (e.g., HAZOP), capital and operational cost analysis, risk assessments, and whole‑life carbon assessments.
• Experience in the UK Water market is preferred.
• Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly within diverse multidisciplinary teams.
• Proactive, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach to drive teamwork and share success across projects.
