Job summary

Assystem seeks experienced Principal and Senior Principal Civil Engineers to join its Fusion and Modular Nuclear team in the UK and internationally. You will shape safety-related and conventional civil structures for SMR/AMR and fusion facilities, leading multidisciplinary design through concept to commissioning.

You will mentor teams, engage with regulators and clients, and drive innovative, cost-efficient engineering solutions across major nuclear programmes.

Qualifications

• Significant post-qualification experience within nuclear new build, SMR/AMR or similar large-scale projects.
• Proven leadership of civil and structural engineering activities across the full project lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of Eurocodes, British Standards and international design standards where relevant.
• Experience in analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures with substantiation.
• Familiarity with seismic design, dynamic analysis, hazard assessment and resilience considerations.
• Understanding nuclear safety principles and ONR guidelines.
• Champion MMC from project inception to improve off-site manufacturing and efficiency.
• Knowledge of power plant layouts and asset protection strategies.
• Delivery-focused mindset with ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent client-facing communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis and design for nuclear safety-related and conventional civil structures.
• Develop engineering solutions for structures under seismic and environmental loading.
• Oversee and approve technical deliverables, calculations, models, drawings.
• Act as Lead Civil Engineer, Technical Authority or SME.
• Ensure compliance with UK/international codes, standards and safety principles.
• Support development of safety cases and hazard assessments.
• Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews and integration efforts.
• Support client engagement, proposals, and business development.
• Mentor engineers and support chartership development.
