Job summary

Advance TRS is seeking a Principal / Associate Civil Engineer to join its Water Sector team in Croydon. You will lead a range of water infrastructure projects and guide Civil Engineers and Technicians from optioneering through detailed design, delivering for water companies or contractors in design-and-build contracts.

The role combines technical delivery with client interaction and developing less experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or working towards it.
• Post-graduate civil engineering experience.
• Experience with water sector design and client interaction.
• Driving licence held in the UK.

Job Title:

Principal / Associate Civil Engineer

Up to £70,000 + £3,000 car allowance, dependent on experience

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Principal / Associate Civil Engineer to join an established Water Sector team in Croydon.

This is a key role within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, with responsibility for supporting the delivery of a wide range of water infrastructure projects while providing leadership and guidance to a team of Civil Engineers and Technicians.

You will work across projects of varying size and complexity, which may include optioneering, outline design and detailed design. Projects can be delivered directly for water companies or through contractors as part of design and construct contracts.

The role would suit an experienced Civil Engineer who enjoys combining technical delivery with team leadership, client interaction and the development of less experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support a team of Civil Engineers and Technicians working on water infrastructure projects.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary design schemes.
• Oversee the delivery of projects from optioneering through to outline and detailed design.
• Ensure technical and professional work meets client requirements and relevant standards.
• Coordinate plans, programmes and schedules to ensure projects are delivered to agreed deadlines.
• Monitor project delivery against company quality assurance requirements.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and other third parties as required.
• Provide technical guidance and support to developing engineers and technicians.
• Support the continued development of the Civil Engineering team.
• Promote high standards of health, safety, welfare and sustainability across all areas of work.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of projects within the Water sector.

What Our Client is Looking For:

• Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in Civil Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional qualification.
• Considerable post‑graduate experience within Civil Engineering.
• Relevant design experience, ideally within the Water sector.
• Experience working with water industry clients and/or contractors.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring or managing Civil Engineers and Technicians.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• A motivated and positive approach with the ability to work collaboratively.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Knowledge of CAD/Revit and BIM would be advantageous.
• Working knowledge of sustainable engineering practices.
• Experience with hydraulic calculations would be beneficial.
