Job summary

Ridge and Partners LLP in Bristol seeks a Principal Engineer to lead civil engineering on large-scale infrastructure and development schemes for public and private clients. Qualifications

• Chartered engineer (CEng) or intent to become one.
• Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (M.I.C.E.) or equivalent.
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Infodrainage experience desirable.
• Post-graduation design experience.
• Experience in drainage and minor roadway design.
• Knowledge of highways and water industry agreements (Section 38/278/104/106/185).
• Experience leading project teams.

Job description

We are looking for a Principal Engineer to further expand our Civil Engineering team in Bristol. We offer a fully multi-discipline consultancy service or standalone specialist technical services for projects in excess of £500 million in value. The discipline delivers a range of projects for both public and private sector clients with schemes varying from typical commercial developments up to large scale infrastructure and complex development schemes. As a Principal Engineer you will lead the delivery of civil engineering elements and liaise with both clients and the internal design team to ensure a high quality of delivery.

What you need to do to be effective in this role

• Ability to lead projects of various sizes and complexity
• Manage resources to ensure effective and timely delivery of work
• Interface with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects i.e. architects, building services engineers, project managers and cost managers
• Undertake project administration and financial management
• Identify new opportunities for work and prepare proposals for tender
• Represent Ridge through external liaison with Clients, stakeholders and approving bodies
• Manage and co-ordinate highways and drainage designs relating to large development infrastructure projects
• Provide Pre-planning advice and services to client including Flood Risk Assessments (FRA's), Drainage Strategies, and other Pre-Planning advice
• Provide day-to-day client interface, conducting site visits for technical assessment or problem-solving

Experience in a similar role, ideally within a multi-disciplinary organisation

• Ideally be professionally qualified as a chartered engineer (CEng) or keen to become chartered
• A member of (or an aspiration to become a member of) the Institution of Civil Engineers (M.I.C.E.) or equivalent relevant professional body
• Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and in particular Civil 3D
• A competent user of Infodrainage is desirable
• Design experience with proven post-graduation experience that will be discussed at interview
• Experience in drainage (foul and surface) and minor roadway design
• A good understanding of section 38, 278 (Highways Act) and section 104, 106 and 185 (Water industry Act) agreements
• Experience with designing a wide range of projects from conception through to completion (including calculations, drawings and specifications)
• Familiar with Part H and M of Building Regulations, British Standards and local authority requirements
• Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) and its application within civil engineering
• A solid understanding of drainage design, SUDS, highways, cut and fill analysis
• Be proficient at design and happy to participate in productive work
• Technical skills, knowledge and experience to find creative solutions for even the most complex challenges and the ability to communicate these clearly to all parties.
