Principal / Associate Director Ecologist - Manchester

Salary Range: Competitive salary of circa £43k for principal and circa £55k depending on experience

Location: Manchester

Are you an experienced ecologist with strong business acumen seeking a new challenge? We are looking for a self-motivated and positive-minded Principal / Associate Director Ecologist to join our friendly team in Manchester. The successful candidate will manage a team of ecologists, providing ecologically smart, commercially efficient, and cost-effective solutions for various projects.

  1. Manage contracts and support staff, draft high-quality reports, and review technical work.
  2. Support clients and design teams in problem-solving.
  3. Contribute to business development through costing, tendering, and diversifying services.
  4. Engage with a variety of projects and clients to develop skills in consultancy work.

Candidate Requirements
  • Degree qualification in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and European environmental legislation.
  • Strong fieldwork and report writing skills, including protected species surveys and management plans.
  • At least 5 years experience in reviewing technical work.
  • Competence in surveying and mitigation for key protected species such as bats, badgers, and reptiles.
  • EPS and/or conservation licenses for relevant species; registration on the class license scheme is preferred.
  • Proven project and staff management experience.
  • Ability to manage workload proactively and support junior staff.
  • Proficiency in customer service, training, and workshops.
  • Full membership of CIEEM and preferably CEcoL.
  • Self-starter with initiative and a full UK driving license.
Additional Preferences

Experience in high-level reptile mitigation, botany specialization, or certification at FISC level 4 or above are especially welcome.
