The North Yorkshire and York Perinatal Mental Health Team are looking to appoint a band 8b Principal Applied Psychologist to work as part of our multi-disciplinary team on a 12 month fixed term/secondment basis covering maternity leave.
The perinatal team supports women and birthing people from conception up to 12 months post natal. The perinatal team covers a large geographical area; based clinically within the Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire cell, but also offering leadership skills and support into the wider York and North Yorkshire Team. Independent travel is essential in this role.
Applicants will be required to have post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS and be registered in as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC. Significant experience and competencies in delivering and supervising evidence based psychological intervention for SMHP is also essential.
A key part of the role is to provide direct clinical work, promote psychological thinking with all members of the team by helping staff to develop formulations for clients, offering supervision and joint work with the team, supporting staff wellbeing and providing training in psychological theory and its implementation.
The successful candidate will have significant experience of working psychologically with people who experience severe mental health problems and competencies in an evidence based psychological therapy for SMHP. They will contribute to the collective clinical leadership of the service. They will be responsible for the provision of specialist psychological assessment and formulation, and the delivery of evidence based psychological therapy and clinical supervision. The post holder will contribute to service development and improvement within the locality and the professional leadership of psychological professions.

There are also strong links to the local Hull and Teesside D Clinical Psychology Programme as we are key providers of academic and clinical experience components both in terms of teaching and supervision.

Applicants need to be motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and resilient. Knowledge and experience of working with people with complex mental health issues including psychosis and personality disorders is essential.
Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis. In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.
