Job summary

Incubator for AI (i.AI) is seeking a Principal Applied AI Engineer to set the technical strategy for Applied AI delivery and lead a portfolio of products reaching national scale across health, education, planning and more.

You will lead execution, mentor other engineers, identify talent needs, and own major platforms while guiding long-term technical direction within a UK government context.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading the technical direction of frontier AI products or delivery of frontier AI solutions.
• Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and ship products that transform departments or policy areas.
• Strong networks across the tech sector and public sector domain experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set the overall strategy for Applied AI delivery and define goals across product work streams.
• Lead execution of a portfolio of products that reach national scale.
• Identify talent gaps and assemble required capabilities.
• Mentor the next generation of AI engineering principals.
• Own a major platform or tool and advise on long-term technical strategy.
