Job summary

Royal Bank of Scotland is seeking a Principal Engineer for its API Management Platform. You will design and engineer software with customer outcomes, contribute to architecture, design and engineering excellence, and collaborate to elevate the bank’s software capability.

You’ll work with engineers on production and prototyping, define end-to-end automation, build platform solutions, and shape architecture roadmaps while applying Agile and DevOps practices to deliver secure, scalable services.

Qualifications

Expertise in cloud architecture across AWS and GCP with cloud-native tech
Knowledge of Kubernetes platforms (GKE/EKS) and container services for API management
Familiarity with Apigee Hybrid and API management best practices
Ability to shape architecture strategy and produce high/low-level designs aligned with security and business goals
Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence technical direction
Experience in Agile delivery environments and DevOps practices
Knowledge of cloud security, DevSecOps and infrastructure automation (Terraform, CI/CD)
Awareness of emerging cloud-native AI capabilities (Vertex AI) would be beneficial

Responsibilities

Define and govern end-to-end engineering and design solutions focusing on automation, resilience, security and performance
Work in platform/feature teams to design and engineer complex software and tools enabling delivery of bank platforms and services
Develop architecture models and roadmaps to meet business and technical requirements and ensure usability
Design, build, test and implement working code with Agile and DevOps practices
