Job summary

Sunderland City Council is seeking a highly skilled Principal Accountant (Capital) to lead the financial management of the Council's Capital Programme and support major regeneration and infrastructure investments.

You will build strong relationships with budget holders, project managers and senior officers, provide expert capital finance advice, and help deliver value for residents through robust governance and timely reporting.

Job description

Reporting to the Strategic Finance Manager for Capital and Economy & Place, you will provide operational leadership and coordination for the Council's Capital Programme, supporting the delivery of major regeneration projects, infrastructure investment, housing developments and commercial initiatives across the city. The role will involve: Leading the day-to-day financial management of the Council's Capital Programme.

• Supporting budget holders, project managers and senior officers with financial planning, monitoring and forecasting.
• Ensuring robust governance arrangements for capital projects and funding streams.
• Coordinating capital budget monitoring, reporting and funding claims.
• Providing professional financial advice on complex capital finance matters.
• Supporting the effective delivery of major investment and regeneration programmes.
