Job description

Primary SEND Teacher - ASD Specialist Provision, Northampton | ASAP Start | Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity with Potential for Permanency

Are you a compassionate, dedicated and enthusiastic teacher with a passion for supporting children with special educational needs?

Tradewind Recruitment is working closely with a primary school in Northampton, who are looking to appoint an experienced and committed Primary SEND Teacher to join their specialist provision for EYFS and KS1 pupils.

The provision supports children aged 4-7 who have an EHCP for communication and interaction needs, specifically Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and wants to make a meaningful difference to young children with autism.

The role is offered on a long-term basis, with the potential for the position to become permanent for the right candidate.

The successful teacher will become an important part of the school's specialist SEND provision, working closely with pupils, teaching assistants and wider professionals to support their academic, communication, social and emotional development.

What you'll be doing:
  • Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils within the specialist provision.
  • Creating a calm, nurturing, structured and predictable classroom environment where pupils feel safe and supported.
  • Adapting teaching approaches, resources and activities to meet the individual needs of pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Supporting pupils to develop their communication, social interaction, independence and emotional regulation skills.
  • Working closely with teaching assistants and other professionals to provide consistent and effective support.
  • Setting and working towards individual pupil targets, including those outlined within EHCPs.
  • Monitoring, assessing and recording pupil progress and using this information to inform future planning.
  • Using appropriate strategies to support pupils' sensory, communication and behavioural needs.
  • Promoting inclusion, independence, confidence and positive relationships across the school.
  • Supporting pupils to access the wider curriculum and, where appropriate, opportunities within the mainstream school environment.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
  • Hold UK QTS or QTLS and have experience or a strong interest in SEND teaching.
  • Have experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication and interaction needs or other additional needs.
  • Have experience within EYFS and/or KS1, or a strong understanding of the early years and primary curriculum.
  • Have a patient, nurturing and adaptable approach to teaching.
  • Understand how autism can impact communication, learning, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Are confident differentiating lessons and adapting your teaching to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Have strong behaviour and classroom management skills.
  • Are able to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and work effectively as part of a wider team.
  • Are passionate about helping children with SEND achieve their full potential.
  • Are interested in a role that could develop into a permanent position.
What’s in it for you:
  • A long-term teaching opportunity within a dedicated specialist ASD provision.
  • The potential for a permanent position for the right candidate.
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to children aged 4-7 with autism and communication and interaction needs.
  • The chance to work alongside an experienced and supportive SEND team.
  • Competitive daily rates and weekly pay through Tradewind Recruitment.
  • Access to high-quality CPD and SEND-specific training.
  • Ongoing support from your dedicated local Tradewind consultant.
  • A rewarding role where your teaching, creativity and passion can have a lasting impact on pupils' development.

Whether you are an experienced SEND specialist or a mainstream primary teacher looking to develop your expertise within a specialist ASD provision, this could be an excellent opportunity to join a supportive Northampton primary school and potentially secure a permanent position within their SEND team.
