Job summary

Aspire People in Manchester is seeking Pastoral Support Assistants to work in primary schools across Manchester and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with emotional, social or behavioural needs, build positive relationships and help children feel safe and ready to learn.

The role offers full-time and part-time opportunities, with placements across a range of school settings. You will work alongside teachers and pastoral teams, following safeguarding procedures and contributing to pupil

Qualifications

• Has recent UK-based school experience within the last two years, ideally in pastoral, behaviour or pupil support.
• Experience supporting children with emotional, social or behavioural needs.
• Is approachable, patient and able to build positive relationships.
• Can remain calm and consistent when dealing with challenging situations.
• Understands confidentiality, professional boundaries and safeguarding.
• Communicates effectively with pupils, teachers and other professionals.
• Is committed to helping children feel safe, included and ready to learn.

Responsibilities

• Providing individual and small-group pastoral support for primary-aged pupils
• Building positive, trusting relationships with children while maintaining professional boundaries
• Supporting pupils who experience emotional, social or behavioural difficulties
• Helping children develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships
• Supporting emotional regulation and appropriate responses to challenging situations
• Encouraging positive behaviour, attendance and engagement with learning
• Helping pupils manage friendship difficulties and resolve conflicts appropriately
• Supporting transitions, breaktimes and other less structured parts of the school day
• Sharing relevant observations and concerns with teachers and pastoral staff
• Following safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
