Job summary

Aspire People is recruiting caring, resilient and proactive Pastoral Support Assistants to work within primary schools across Manchester and the surrounding areas. You will help pupils overcome barriers to learning by providing encouragement, consistent support and positive guidance throughout the school day.

The role focuses on building positive relationships, supporting pupils with emotional, social or behavioural needs, and helping them engage with learning.

Qualifications

• Has recent UK-based school experience within the last two years, ideally in pastoral, behaviour or pupil support.
• Experience supporting children with emotional, social or behavioural needs; patient and approachable.
• Understands safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Effective communication with pupils, teachers and other professionals.

Responsibilities

• Providing individual and small‑group pastoral support for primary‑aged pupils.
• Building positive relationships with children while maintaining boundaries.
• Supporting pupils with emotional, social or behavioural difficulties.
• Helping children develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.
• Supporting emotional regulation and appropriate responses to challenging situations.
• Encouraging positive behaviour, attendance and engagement with learning.
• Helping pupils manage friendship difficulties and conflicts.
• Supporting transitions, breaktimes and less structured parts of the day.
• Sharing observations with teachers and safeguarding staff.
• Following safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.
