This role is ideal for someone who has a strong presence in school, is confident managing challenging behaviour and knows how to build positive relationships with pupils who may have SEMH needs, difficult home circumstances or barriers to learning.

About the Primary School Learning Mentor Role

You will work with pupils who need consistent, structured support to help them regulate their behaviour, engage with learning and make positive choices in school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring for pupils with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour and difficult home circumstances.

  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, pastoral teams and external professionals to provide consistent support.
  • Intervene proactively when behaviour begins to escape and help pupils return successfully to learning.
  • Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, including during transitions and less structured parts of the school day.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous experience as a Learning Mentor, Behaviour Mentor, Pastoral Support Worker or similar role is strongly preferred.
  • A confident individual with presence, authority and excellent behaviour management skills.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
  • A good range of practical strategies for managing behaviour, emotional regulation and conflict.
