Job summary

Randstad UK is seeking an dedicated assistant to support a primary classroom, delivering lessons, preparing resources, and helping pupils flourish. You will work 1:1 and in small groups, focusing on literacy, numeracy and phonics while promoting positive behaviour and safeguarding.

Experience with children in educational settings is ideal; GCSEs and a proactive, adaptable approach are essential. Right to work in the UK and a DBS check are required, with references and a clear employment history.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in an educational, youth work, or childcare setting.
• Patient, adaptable, and proactive approach with strong communication skills.
• Good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent).
• Knowledge of phonics, early reading strategies, or SEND support (advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Support the class teacher with lesson delivery, preparing resources, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
• Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small intervention groups across literacy, numeracy, and phonics.
• Assist in managing classroom behaviour using positive reinforcement and calm, encouraging strategies.
• Support pupils with SEND, helping them access the curriculum and build independence.
• Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and child protection procedures.
