Valayo is seeking a Pricing Actuary for their newly created Portfolio Solutions team, reporting directly to the Head of Pricing. This role involves pricing across diverse Specialty and Commercial portfolios while actively engaging with brokers and underwriters.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified actuary with strong technical pricing skills and the ability to manage relationships effectively. The position also offers strategic exposure in portfolio monitoring and profitability analysis.

The salary is up to £110,000, based in London, with a hybrid working model of three days per week in the office.

Job description

Valayo are currently working on an opportunity with a leading Lloyd’s syndicate who are hiring for a Pricing Actuary within a newly created Portfolio Solutions team. The role would report directly into the Head of Pricing and focus on pricing across a broad range of Specialty and Commercial portfolios worth hundreds of millions £, rather than traditional case pricing on individual risks.

This is quite a commercial and front-facing role, involving regular interaction with brokers and underwriters to structure and assess bespoke opportunities. A key part of the role is understanding portfolio performance, assessing loss ratio adequacy and determining whether opportunities make real commercial sense to the firm.

They are looking for a qualified actuary, someone technically strong from a pricing background (Direct & RI broking actuaries welcome!) who is also comfortable managing broker and UW relationships, challenging stakeholders where needed and communicating concerns commercially.

Alongside the pricing work, the role also has strong strategic exposure through involvement in portfolio monitoring, profitability analysis, business planning and broader portfolio optimisation work. It is a fairly independent role within a growing area of the business and would suit someone who enjoys working autonomously whilst remaining very commercially involved.
