Job summary

COOK is seeking a Kitchen Prep Assistant to support our busy Christmas kitchen. You will carefully cut, weigh, and prepare meat, assist with Christmas centrepieces, and ensure all products meet high standards of safety and quality.

Ideal candidates are reliable, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Previous kitchen experience and NVQ Level 1/2 in catering are preferred but not mandatory; potential matters more than perfect qualifications.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 1 and 2 (or equivalent in catering) preferred but not required.
• Experience as a chef or working in busy Kitchen.
• Passion for food and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Carefully cutting, weighing, and preparing meat according to set instructions and recipes.
• Preparing Christmas centrepieces, including trimming, cutting, portioning, and stuffing meat products ready for cooking.
• Working safely with raw meat, poultry, and other ingredients, following all required food handling procedures.
• Preparing and stuffing meat products, ensuring they are assembled neatly and consistently to the required standard.
• Using knives and other kitchen equipment safely and confidently when cutting and preparing ingredients.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy, and hygienic preparation area, including cleaning surfaces, utensils, equipment, and workstations.
• Following all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures when handling raw meat and preparing food.
• Working efficiently as part of the team to ensure Christmas orders are prepared accurately and on time.
• Supporting the team with other preparation duties as required during the busy Christmas period.
