Job summary

The Swindon Academy is seeking a Premises Operative to join the Site Team to help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

You will undertake a range of site, maintenance, security and grounds duties, reporting to the Cluster Estates Manager, with a 37.5 hour week and a full-time contract. A full driving licence is essential and a 10% shift allowance is included.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance, facilities, or site management.
  • Ability to perform minor plumbing, electrical, decorating tasks.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Committed to health, safety, and security standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operation, safety and security of the Academy site.
  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and handyman tasks.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, gardening, and litter management.
  • Monitor heating, cooling, and building management systems.
  • Conduct fire and building safety checks.
  • Support school events, lettings and educational trips.
  • Manage deliveries, furniture moves, and site logistics.
  • Work with contractors and ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Maintain Academy vehicles and support transport when required.

Contract: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £24,978 per annum plus 10% shift allowance

The Role

Working under the direction of the Cluster Estates Manager, you will be responsible for a wide range of site, maintenance, security, and grounds duties, including:

  • Supporting the day‑to‑day operation, safety, and security of the Academy site
  • Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and handyman tasks
  • Assisting with grounds maintenance, gardening, and litter management
  • Monitoring heating, cooling, and building management systems
  • Conducting fire and building safety checks
  • Supporting school events, lettings, and educational trips
  • Managing deliveries, furniture moves, and site logistics
  • Working with contractors and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures
  • Maintaining Academy vehicles and supporting transport activities when required.

Essential Requirement
  • Full driving licence with Category B1 entitlement.
