Job summary

GDS Partners are recruiting an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join an established M&E Contractor based in Maidenhead. This role owns the full preconstruction process from enquiry and tender development through to negotiation, project award and handover to the delivery team.

You will lead tender coordination across Estimating, Design, Procurement and projects, ensure technical and commercial compliance, and drive successful client negotiations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience in Electrical Preconstruction, Estimating or Bid Management.
• Experience in an M&E / Electrical Contractor environment.
• Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders on complex tenders.
• Commercial fit-out, refurbishment or similar construction project experience advantageous.
• Strong technical understanding of electrical building services (distribution, containment, lighting, small power).
• Good commercial understanding of labour, materials, risk and margin.
• Confident reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, programmes and contractual information.
• Strong communication, organisation and client-facing skills.
• Electrical trade, Electrical Engineering or Building Services background advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage enquiries from initial receipt through tender submission, negotiation, award and handover.
• Review client enquiries, drawings, specifications, employer's requirements and tender documentation.
• Coordinate Estimating, Design, Procurement, Projects, suppliers and specialist subcontractors throughout the tender process.
• Ensure tenders are technically compliant, commercially competitive and submitted within agreed deadlines.
• Review electrical designs and specifications, identifying design gaps, scope interfaces, omissions and potential risks.
• Manage tender clarifications, qualifications, exclusions, assumptions and value-engineering proposals.
• Lead internal tender reviews and support commercial negotiations with clients.
• Review supplier and subcontractor quotations for scope, commercial risk and completeness.
• Attend client meetings, tender interviews, design workshops and commercial negotiations.
• Lead structured handovers following project award, ensuring delivery teams have a clear understanding of scope, budget, programme, design responsibilities and procurement requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience within Electrical Preconstruction, Estimating or Bid Management.
• Strong experience working within an M&E / Electrical Contractor environment.
• Experience managing complex tenders and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
• Commercial fit-out, refurbishment or similar construction project experience is highly advantageous.
• Strong technical understanding of electrical building services, including distribution, containment, lighting, small power and associated systems.
• Good commercial understanding of labour, materials, subcontract packages, risk and margin.
• Confident reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, programmes and contractual information.
• Strong communication, organisation and client-facing skills.
