Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience in civil engineering, site engineering, design or pre-construction within rail, infrastructure or construction sectors.
• Strong understanding of construction methodologies, drawings, specifications and project planning.
• Experience supporting tender submissions, cost planning, and coordinating technical information.
• Excellent communication, analytical and organisational skills with cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Support the pre-construction process from tender enquiry through submission and award.
• Review tender docs, drawings, specs and site information to identify requirements, constraints and risks.
• Assist in developing construction methodologies, temporary works, and project delivery strategies.
• Collaborate with estimating, commercial and design teams to support cost planning, tender pricing and value engineering.
• Liaise with designers, clients and suppliers to resolve technical queries and ensure practical solutions.
• Prepare tender programmes, risk registers and other pre-construction documents to meet client deadlines.

We are working with a well-established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor to assist them in hiring a Pre-Construction Engineer for their growing team in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected business delivering a diverse range of rail, civil engineering and infrastructure projects across Scotland. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing projects from tender stage through to construction, supporting the preparation of technical proposals, reviewing design information and contributing to effective construction planning. Working alongside estimating, commercial, engineering and operational teams, you will help develop practical, cost-effective solutions that support successful tender submissions and project delivery. As the Pre-Construction Engineer, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Supporting the pre-construction process from initial tender enquiry through to submission and contract award.
• Reviewing tender documentation, engineering drawings, specifications and site information to identify project requirements, constraints and potential risks.
• Assisting in the development of construction methodologies, temporary works requirements, technical proposals and project delivery strategies.
• Working closely with estimating and commercial teams to support cost planning, tender pricing, subcontractor enquiries and value engineering exercises.
• Liaising with designers, clients, suppliers and operational teams to resolve technical queries and ensure proposed solutions are practical and compliant.
• Supporting the preparation of tender programmes, risk registers, technical submissions and other pre-construction documentation to meet client requirements and deadlines.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

• Previous experience in a civil engineering, site engineering, design or pre-construction role within rail, infrastructure or the wider construction sector.
• A good understanding of construction methodologies, engineering drawings, technical specifications and project planning.
• Experience supporting tender submissions, developing construction solutions or coordinating technical information.Strong communication, analytical and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• A proactive and commercially aware approach, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify practical solutions to engineering challenges.
