Barts Health is recruiting a Lead Cloud Engineer to support the maintenance, operation, and scaling of the cloud infrastructure for the Barts Health Data Platform, which facilitates research and analysis within a Secure Data Environment (SDE). This role offers exposure to leading research on patient and healthcare data, aligning with NHS goals of data-driven life-saving initiatives. The successful candidate will support researchers and clinicians in developing data analysis projects to personalise patient treatment. We are establishing a precision medicine programme funded initially by Barts Charity, aiming to unlock NHS patient data research potential while ensuring responsible, legal, and ethical access with patient engagement from the outset.
We use modern cloud technology to build the Barts Health Data Platform and its SDE, containing patient data that complies with security and governance standards. The SDE will be adaptable for various users and analysis activities, sourcing components from open-source projects like Azure TRE, and making work publicly available.
The Lead Cloud Engineer's responsibilities include identifying, investigating, implementing, and managing cloud services and data management systems for the SDE. They will also plan, design, and customize the SDE for researchers and clinicians, integrating open-source software securely and effectively.

The role requires extensive experience in cloud infrastructure, data security, technical leadership, and collaboration with diverse teams. Qualifications include a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field, and professional cloud certifications in Azure or equivalent. Willingness to work outside normal hours occasionally is expected.
