Job summary

DB Defence in the United Kingdom is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Fitter (Team Member) to assemble large marine gearboxes and ancillaries, handling components up to 26 tonnes and assemblies up to 85 tonnes.

Interpret technical drawings, use precision measuring equipment, and maintain detailed quality records. Work safely in a Defence environment, collaborating with a skilled team to meet production targets and support gearbox installation at customer sites.

Qualifications

• Must hold an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (4-year apprenticeship) or an equivalent discipline.
• Experience with rotating equipment and mechanical assembly/testing is preferred.
• Experience with lifting, slinging and safe handling of heavy components.
• Proficient with gantry and overhead cranes in heavy engineering environments.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to health and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assemble large-scale marine gearboxes and ancillaries with components up to 26 tonnes.
• Interpret and work from technical drawings using precision measuring equipment.
• Complete quality and traceability records with accurate serial and casting numbers.
• Collaborate with a team to overcome assembly challenges and meet production targets.
• Support gearbox installation and inspection activities at customer sites as required.
• Maintain safe work practices in a Defence environment.
