Mana Resourcing is supporting a UK client seeking a Pre-Sales Design Engineer for AI data centres and high-density compute environments. You will translate customer requirements into robust designs and costed proposals, working closely with a key account to balance technical detail with commercial considerations.

The role requires strong experience in data centre infrastructure, expertise in high-density cooling, and the ability to produce precise, pricing-backed proposals.

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering experience within data centre infrastructure, AI or high-density computing environments.
• Strong understanding of high-density compute cooling and direct liquid-cooling systems.
• Experience producing detailed, costed technical proposals.
• Ability to explain technical designs clearly to customers and colleagues.
• Strong attention to detail when preparing calculations, specifications and estimates.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical discovery meetings to establish customer requirements, specifications and project constraints.
• Develop data centre infrastructure designs, including layouts, cooling architecture and plant arrangements.
• Prepare and validate engineering calculations covering heat loads, design temperatures, temperature differences, flow rates and pipe sizes.
• Incorporate physical security requirements, including CCTV, and address TEMPEST requirements.
• Produce detailed cost estimates and pricing schedules covering quantities, supplier quotations, labour, design, factory fit-out, transport, cranage, site installation, testing and commissioning.
• Develop clear proposals that explain the recommended technical solution and associated costs.

Pre-Sales Design Engineer - Data Centres / AI Infrastructure

Location: Birmingham, West Midlands

Salary: £50,000 to £80,000 depending on experience

Our client is an established UK specialist in the design and delivery of secure, resilient and energy-efficient data centre infrastructure. Their expertise spans cooling, power and integrated infrastructure, with solutions supporting demanding computing environments across the public and private sectors. Projects include bespoke and modular data centres, where engineering quality, reliability and security are central to the design.

Mana Resourcing is proud to support the company's continued growth. They are now looking for a Pre-Sales Design Engineer to help develop technical solutions and costed proposals for AI and high-density data centre projects.

The ROLE

As a Pre-Sales Design Engineer, you will translate customer requirements into technically robust designs and detailed, costed proposals for AI data centres. Working closely with a key account, you will combine customer-facing technical discussions with infrastructure design, engineering calculations and estimating.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading technical discovery meetings to establish customer requirements, specifications and project constraints.
• Developing data centre infrastructure designs, including layouts, cooling architecture and plant arrangements.
• Preparing and validating engineering calculations covering heat loads, design temperatures, temperature differences, flow rates and pipe sizes.
• Incorporating physical security requirements, including CCTV, and addressing relevant NPSA guidance and TEMPEST requirements.
• Producing detailed cost estimates and pricing schedules covering quantities, supplier quotations, labour, design, factory fit-out, transport, cranage, site installation, testing and commissioning.
• Developing clear proposals that explain the recommended technical solution and associated costs.

The PERSON

We are looking for an engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to understand customer needs and produce accurate, commercially considered proposals.

You will bring:

• Relevant engineering experience within data centre infrastructure, particularly AI or high-density computing environments.
• A strong understanding of high-density compute cooling and direct liquid-cooling systems.
• Experience producing detailed, costed technical proposals.
• The ability to explain technical designs clearly to customers and colleagues.
• Strong attention to detail when preparing calculations, specifications and estimates.

This role would suit a Pre-Sales Design Engineer or a Data Centre Design Engineer with experience translating technical requirements into customer proposals.

Based in the West Midlands, with potential commuting locations including Birmingham, Walsall, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton, Tamworth, Lichfield, Coleshill, Cannock, Burton upon Trent, Stafford, Nuneaton, Hinckley and West Bromwich.
