Pre-Operative Assessment Outpatients Clerk

Band 2 Receptionist/ Clinic Co-ordinator

We are looking for a well-motivated and enthusiastic individual with a keen desire to join our busy team, which prides itself on delivering high standards of care to all patients.

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs per week), permanent position. The successful applicant should have experience in general administration and a good aptitude for working with various in-house computer systems.

Our clinic operates Monday - Friday, 7am to 6pm. The 7.5-hour shift pattern will reflect this schedule.

Main duties of the job

You should be able to:

  • Work well within a team, possess excellent organisational skills, manage your workload effectively, and be flexible in your working hours.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills and maintain a reassuring, calm approach when dealing with patients, relatives, staff, and visitors.
  • While based in the Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic, you will be required to collect notes and documents from across the entire hospital site.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Experience
  • Previous reception or customer-facing experience in healthcare or a similar public setting
  • Clerical or administrative experience including filing and reception duties
  • Previous NHS experience is desirable
Skills and Abilities
  • Professional telephone and reception manner
  • Flexible and adaptable to various duties
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy
  • Clear communication skills and ability to act quickly in emergencies
  • Proficiency in IT skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Organized and methodical working style
  • Ability to work effectively within a team, adapt to change, and motivate others
  • Ability to work independently and follow instructions from nursing staff
  • Confidence in handling difficult conversations with patients and relatives
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Desirable: IT skills including transcribing from dictation
Qualifications and Training
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above in English Language and Maths
