About the role

Become part of the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years! Join our Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick team as an Pre Construction Area Lead on the Hinkley Point Project and develop with this amazing project.

About Hinkley Point C

The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years; Hinkley Point C in Somerset will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, create thousands of jobs, and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.

Marking a significant milestone in the revitalisation of our nuclear power industry, Hinkley Point C will make a major contribution to the UK's move to reduce carbon emissions. The electricity generated by its two EPR reactors will offset 9 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

What you'll be doing

Reporting into the Site-wide Pre Construction Lead, you will be responsible for managing a team of Pre Construction Engineers across HVAC, Piping, and Electrical disciplines.

  1. Manage the pre-construction area team
  2. Coordinate design and material requirements according to project needs, providing feedback on design and material supply priorities and gaps
  3. Provide work instructions and information
  4. Make decisions to install at risk when appropriate
  5. Facilitate effective communication and coordination between design, supply chain, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of all pre-construction activities
  6. Define the integrated sequence with site construction teams, area management, and other Tier 1 contractors
  7. Ensure the scope prepared for installation is optimal for site work and resource utilization
  8. Be accountable for overall readiness and the MEH Alliance 16-week look ahead
  9. Promote and maintain health and safety standards, including site inspections to ensure safety rules are being followed, supporting a positive Nuclear Safety Culture
  10. Prepare detailed progress reports and stakeholder presentations highlighting key achievements, risks, and mitigation actions
Who we're looking for
  • Degree qualification or equivalent vocational training or experience
  • Proven experience in a highly regulated sector, preferably nuclear
  • Experience working on major construction projects
  • Experience in a Engineer or Senior Engineer role
  • Proficiency with Navisworks and Excel
  • Ability to achieve Security Clearance (BPSS or higher)
  • CCNSG Safety Passport
