Job Overview

An exciting new role has become available within the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service at St. Bartholomews Hospital. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic practitioner psychologist into a service supporting adults with Cystic Fibrosis and the systems around them.

The person appointed will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to patients under the care of the Cystic Fibrosis service, as well as advice and consultation to professional colleagues. There are strong opportunities for research and service development within the CF MDT and wider psychological services. The CF team are keen to support professional development, including funding for conferences and other training opportunities.

We are looking for a candidate with experience in clinical health psychology to work alongside two other practitioner psychologists (0.5 wte Band 7 and 0.5 wte Band 8a). These posts sit within the wider Barts Heart and Thorax Psychological Services, with clinical supervision and line management provided from this service. The post offers diverse experience and the chance to develop transferable skills.

The Working Pattern for This Post Will Be

Wednesday afternoons starting from midday, with the option to work from home

Thursdays, full day, on-site

Fridays, full day, on-site.

The post-holder will be clinically embedded within the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) service and, together with other CF psychologists, will work autonomously in providing specialist psychological care. Operationally, the post sits within the Barts Heart and Thorax Psychological Services, and accountability is to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist service lead. This provides access to wider peer support, team meetings, reflective practice, and CPD opportunities (including Special Interest Groups e.g., EMDR and Narrative Therapy).

The post involves providing psychological assessment and therapy to adults (16+) with CF across inpatient and outpatient settings, offering advice and consultation to colleagues and carers. The role requires working autonomously within professional guidelines, contributing to service development, and supporting the psychological care strategy at St. Bartholomew's Hospital.

Experience (Essential)

  • Qualified clinical psychologist at specialist level.
  • Experience working in diverse, multicultural contexts.
  • Experience with various client groups across the lifespan and severity levels.
  • Full responsibility for psychological care and treatment within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience representing psychology in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Experience presenting at conferences or educational settings.
  • Experience with service development projects.
  • Providing staff support in healthcare settings.
  • Supervising trainee psychologists or other professionals.

Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience within Clinical Health Psychology or CF settings.
  • Experience working with adults with life-limiting conditions.
