Weare seeking an enthusiastic and forward thinking registered Practice Nurse tocomplement our team at The Grove Medical Centre in Sherborne, Dorset.

The post is a permanent position. The vacancy is for 20 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be working within our fantastic Nursing Team, treating patients with a wide range of issues. A diploma in Diabetes management is essential. Experience of treatment room procedures such as wound management, immunisations and vaccinations and cervical smears are desirable.

The practice nurse willwork as part of the primary healthcare team providing Personal Medical Servicesto the patients of practice.

Job responsibilities:

A fullyqualified practice nurse will be competent in delivering the followingservices. It is recognised that they might not yet have allthese skills and as such training will be given as appropriate however a diploma in diabetes management is an essential requirement.

  • Assist in andperform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs
  • Cytology
  • Wound care /Legulcer management /Doppler
  • Removal ofSutures/clips
  • Travel Clinic
  • ChildhoodImmunisations
  • ECGs
  • INRs
  • Venepuncture
  • Ear care/syringing
  • Routine immunisations
  • Chaperoning andassisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by anotherclinician
  • Assisting GPswith minor surgery and IUCD/Implant fittings
  • Requestingpathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Interest in managementof one or more of the following long-term conditions such as Diabetes,Asthma, Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension COPD
  • Support theNurse Clinical Lead and Senior Nurse by developing clinical leadership in someareas with agreement by the Nurse Clinical Lead
  • Create and addto care plans for patients with certain conditions such as leg ulcers,diabetes, asthma, avoiding unplanned admissions, dementia etc.
  • Documenting allconsultations and onward referrals appropriately within the clinicalsystem.
  • FollowingSafeguarding Adult and Child procedures as required including contributingto case conferences or documentation if required.
  • Following agreedclinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate
  • Ensure thatmedical records are completed at time of consultation and are accurate andthat confidentiality is respected in line with surgery policy

Other tasks willinclude:

  • Maintaining andcleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs. Ensure cleaning rotas are completed andsigned for on a daily/weekly/monthly basis as per cleaning schedules.
  • Maintaining GPand Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Chaperoning andassisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Maintain generaltidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Maintain stockof waiting room leaflets as instructed by partners and Practice Manager
  • Ordering ofHealth Promotion Literature
  • Ordering ofstock for nursing requirements as agreed within the nursing team
  • Ordering ofvaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Participation inadministrative systems in the Practice
  • At all timesthere will be a need to maintain accurate records
  • A duty to adviseGP(s) of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attendand participate in any Practice meetings when required. These may be on days you do not normallywork, however you are expected to attend and will be paid overtime.
  • On occasionthere may be a requirement to undertake home visits
  • Any otherdelegated duties appropriate to the post
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse
  • Qualifications/Certificates in wound management, adult and child vaccinations and immunisations, and phlebotomy
  • Registered on the national cervical smear takers database
  • Qualifications/Certificates in compression bandaging.
Experience
  • Experience of working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2002) and The Scope of Professional Practice (1992)
  • Experience of Microsoft Office software
  • Experience of dealing with the public/patients
  • Experience of TPP SystmOne clinical system and Ardens
  • Experience of working in primary care
Knowledge/Skills
  • Competent in basic nursing duties
  • Knowledge of wound management, adult and child vaccinations and immunisations and phlebotomy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of participating in and/or running clinical audit.
